1. Boot Errors
Check to see if the security dongle is plugged into the parallel port of the back office server. The security dongle is used to license the software and the system will not stay running without it.
This works on the AMF Advantage and AMF XL replacement systems.
Make sure the floppy drive is empty. An inserted floppy disk can prevent a system from booting.
If using an IDE hard drive, verify the drive is setup in the system bios. Check the mode for that drive and change to NORMAL or CHS.
2. Printers
If the printer is a serial printer, the flow control is probably not setup properly. Flow control is used to control how fast data goes to the device. Flow control needs to be set the same on the server and the printer to work. Type of wiring and brand of printer can control the type of flow control needed for your system. Contact us to get help in setting your printer flow control.
Printer are designed to emulate a set of print codes. Your printer might not have the right emulation setup in the printer. Contact us for help in setting up your printer. The model and brand name will determine how your printer needs to be setup.

3. Application Errors
Your database files have become corrupt and a database check and reindex would need to be run. Any corrupt or missing files would need to be restored or recreated. Contact our office on how to get this done.
Login at root and at the # prompt type asktime and press enter.
The format of the time command is yymmddhhmm so for Dec 19, 2017 at 2:30pm you would enter 1712191430 Time is entered as military time.
This work on any AMF Advantage, AMF Plus or Brunwick Xenix or UNIX system.
4. Front Desk
Make sure the back office is running and the application is started. Login as adv and verify you can access the system such as pulling up a bowling record.
Check the wiring to verify nothing has been unplugged or cut.
Test the terminal. Remove the data cable and have someone use a paperclip to short pin 2 and 3 on the top row starting from the left while someone else types on the keyboard. Anything they type should appear on the screen when pin 2 and 3 are connected.
This works on the AMF XL, AMF Advantate and Brunswick Front Desk replacement systems.
This is a Windows program and it might show a blank blue screen when the program is just started. As time passes changes to the screen will display such as a date update or changes to a game.
To force a screen redraw, hit the SPF key on the keyboard which will bring up the Special Functions Menu, then hit the Reset key.
The screen will refresh and show the entire program.
This works on AMF Advantage and AMF XL Front Desk replacement systems.
Check to verify you are not clicked on a different program than the Front Desk. This is a Windows application and the program will not run if you are not focused or clicked in that program.
If you are clicked on the Front Desk and it still does not work, check to verify the Back Office server is running.

My old Wyse front desk had a shift report key but my new Front Desk Replacement terminal does not. How do I print a shift report.
You are running an earlier version of our front desk and you can use either option below
- Use the SPF (Special Functions Key) to put up a menu and choose the Shift Report
- Hit the < Key and Shift Report will print
